No Time to Wait - The must have card for children with IBD

Have you heard of the Access Card? If not it can be a game changer for children with IBD.

For parents of children living with Crohn's Disease or Ulcerative Colitis, everyday activities can bring unexpected stress. Whether it's a family day out, a school trip, or a quick trip to the shops, the unpredictable and urgent nature of IBD symptoms - especially the sudden need for toilet access - can cause anxiety for both children and their families.

The Access Card can make a real difference.

The Access Card is a recognised proof of disability-related needs. It uses simple symbols to represent access requirements such as urgent toilet access, difficulty standing, or the need for support. It's widely accepted across the UK and Europe at venues, attractions, and public events helping people with disabilities or long-term health conditions like IBD navigate public life more easily.

Before we had the Access Card, every outing felt like a risk - where's the nearest toilet? Will staff understand if we need to jump the queue? Now with the card we feel supported. My child can enjoy things like theme parks and outings without the constant fear of having an accident. It's been a game-changer for our whole family.

How to apply for the Access Card

1. Apply online - www.accesscard.org.uk

2. Fill out an application with details about your child's condition, an explanation  about how it affects access to activities, and include supporting documents (e.g. hospital letter, DLA)

3. Submit payment - the card costs £15 and is valid for 3 years
