new trustees wanted!

Our trustees are the team that are ultimately responsible for the organisation.

Many trustees have a strong connection to the cause, either through personal experience, or in their professional capacity (such as working as a health professional), but what is most important is that they want to help children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and their families.

This is a really exciting time for CICRA. In the past year we have undertaken significant change: we have developed an ambitious ten-year strategic plan, and we are growing our reputation as a passionate champion of the voice of children and young people with IBD. In 2018 we have developed a whole range of new information, increased the support we offer for different stages of childhood and celebrated forty years of ground-breaking research. Our plans for 2019 include new and exciting projects on very early onset IBD and information for 11-14 year old young people with IBD, as well as increasing our support for families and funding new research.

While we have much to be proud of in our forty year history, we know that to achieve our vision of a childhood unlimited by IBD, there is much still to do. The key to this is involving young people and parents at the heart of our charity and reflecting the diverse range of families whose lives are turned upside down by Crohn's and colitis.

After reading this, we hope you feel inspired to register your interest in being a CICRA trustee and helping the charity to go from strength to strength.

As an important member of our trustee team, you will help to make sure we are well run, in line with financial and legal requirements, and that what we do is in pursuit of our charitable objectives and represents the wishes of our beneficiaries (children and families affected by IBD). Our board is friendly and supportive and we draw on best practice from the charity sector, where there is lots of guidance and advice for trustees.

Being a trustee is a very important role and CICRA would not be the charity we are without the dedication and input of our trustees over the four decades of our existence. This incredible contribution is all the more precious because it is unpaid. But we also believe it is one of the most fulfilling roles, because you will be helping to change young lives for the better.

We are looking for enthusiastic, motivated individuals who are keen to help the charity go forward with our aims and objectives.

Trustees have a legal responsibility for the charity and as such you will help to ensure the proper, appropriate and relevant management of the charity and all our services and activities, including:

  • attending board meetings in London several times a year
  • setting strategic aims and monitoring the work of the charity
  • responsibility for the finances of the charity
  • ensure compliance with legislation and codes of conduct
  • supporting an area of personal interest to you and strategic importance to the charity

The opportunity to join CICRA's trustee board is an exciting chance to use your skills, experience and knowledge to make a positive impact on the lives of 8,000 children and young people in the UK who are affected by IBD, and their families.

We hope to hear from you!
