Crohn’s in Childhood Research Association was formed in 1978 by a group of concerned parents of young children with Crohn’s. This condition had been seen for many years in adults but at that time it was very rare for it to affect a child.
The formation of the charity was centred around St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London where the children were being treated . Being a new condition in children they were seen by both a gastroenterologist and a paediatrician. Very soon the charity included all children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease(IBD) – Ulcerative Colitis being the other main condition in this group.
Over its 35 years, part of the research programme has been to sponsor Research Training Fellowships. Some of the leading Paediatric Gastroenterologists in this country have come through this scheme and are now treating children in various parts of the country. We continue this funding and hope to ensure that one day all children with IBD will be able to see a specialist.
We offer support, information and understanding to families of children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). If you would like to speak to somebody please contact the CICRA office.
We hope the site will be of help and interest.
