• Susanna is 10 years old and suffers from Indeterminate Colitis, she recently wrote this poem.

    IBD makes me feel rotten
If it wasn’t’ for memories I would have forgotten the healthy little girl I used to be.
Who skipped, ran and danced all day long, who was sure and went anywhere without a doubt.
Who ran like a deer and who was well and never ill.

No one would recognise me now – except for my looks.
For now I am mature, much more that I would be without IBD.
Not as healthy as I used to be, but a better me.
Me, yes, me, has been so ill that the word ‘surgery’ was mentioned.
I am scared and not so sure and confident, more shy.
Won’t go anywhere without being super sure and safe.
Who is not as active as I used to be, but is mature, able, understanding, reliable and much more.

    Although I don’t like IBD.
Now I have got used to it, I wouldn’t change it for the world, for it is part of me.
And if I didn’t have it I wouldn’t be me!

    From Susanna, age 10.
