Would you like to run and raise funds for CICRA?
We have places for the British 10K London Run on Sunday 12th July. There is no race place fee to pay, we ask that you raise a minimum sponsorship of £150.00.
“Last summer I accepted one of CICRA’s spaces to participate in the British London 10K run. It wasn’t until I attended the family information day in June that I became aware of the available position, giving myself just 21 days to prepare. I am by no means a runner. I enjoy exercise (at moderate levels!), but couldn’t resist the opportunity to challenge myself. As you can imagine 21 days isn’t much time to improve stamina but I did what I could, switching my walks for jogs and increasing the distances I ran. I started with a 5 Km and a week before the race completed 2 complete 10Km ‘runs’ in my local area. In these cases I found ‘slow and steady’ certainly won the race– I am not the most competitive of people and found the best way to get through it was to go at my own pace!
The day of the race finally arrived. I was highly anxious, but luckily the adrenalin kicked in and I completed the run in 1 hour and 9 minutes, a time I’m rather proud of. Nothing can compare to the feeling of when you reach the final few hundred metres and the finish line is in sight. It was great to see others running for CICRA too, giving me a smile or a pat on the back along the way; the extra encouragement helped a lot. To my surprise I did not stop or walk along the way!
I started university last year and I can safely say my fitness levels have deteriorated significantly but have put myself forward to complete the race again this year. It’s a great opportunity to raise funds for CICRA and excellent motivation to get back into shape as well! I’m hoping to be just as successful as last year (equalling my sponsors of £643) and once again see fellow CICRA runners along the way.”
Karina will be running for CICRA again this year. Thank you Karina. If you would like to join her, please contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.
